The roots duo of Evie Ladin and Keith Terry, who use their bodies in addition to their instruments to make percussive sounds, will perform twice in Urbana this week.
They will perform at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the Krannert Center lobby as part of the Day of the Drum, an all-day event curated by Champaign percussionist Rocky Maffit that will feature a crafting project, the Billy Jonas Band, Ayodele Drum and Dance, Abbos Kosimov, the UI Percussion Ensemble, the UI Steel Band, Maffit and Friends and the Marching Illini Drumline.
The Day of the Drum will end with a 7:30 p.m. concert featuring the Kodo One Earth Tour 2015: Mystery, featuring Kodo performing Japanese taiko drum traditions. Tickets for the Kodo concert range from $10 to $45. The other Day of the Drum events are free.
The C-U Folk & Roots Festival also will present Terry and Ladin in concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Upper Bout, 723 S. Neil St., C. Tickets to that are $10 each.
The duo, rooted in the music of Southern Appalachia, will present, according to the Folk & Roots Festival, "energetic and electrifying clawhammer banjo, bass, percussive dance, storytelling, songs both old and new, with nuanced, emotive vocals."
Terry, a body percussionist, has performed with artists such as Bobby McFerrin and Alex de Grassi. Ladin has appeared on "A Prairie Home Companion" and "Celtic Connections," among other shows.
